The Butlers Cottage
When Gwarmacwydd House was built around 1840, this cottage housed the household staff. Today The Butlers sits exactly where it always has – between the main farmhouse and The Old Coach House, in the middle of the old farmstead – restored as a warm two-storey cottage for a small family or a couple.
It is the simplest and most economical way to stay on David’s Organic Farm: one family bedroom, a proper bath, a lounge window onto the estate’s bird feeding station, a back door straight into the main garden, and the whole farm – over 450 acres of it – beginning where the garden ends.
Lounge Dining Room
A birdwatcher’s hide with a sofa – and the garden through the back door. The lounge and dining room overlook the main garden of Gwarmacwydd and look straight onto the estate’s bird feeding station, kept stocked every day of the year. Greater spotted woodpeckers visit as a family. Bullfinches, sparrows, and more pass through with the seasons.
Pull a chair to the window with a cup of tea and the show runs all day.
And when small legs need to run: the back door opens directly onto the main garden, with a straight route from there to the children’s play area – from the sofa to the swings in under a minute.

One Bedroom
One bedroom, made for sharing. A king-size double, a 3ft single alongside, and space for a cot – so a young family sleeps together in one room, the way many parents of small children prefer. Garden views from the window, fields beyond, and no corridor between you and a wakeful little one in the night.

The Bathroom
A proper bath – no shower
We say it plainly because it matters to some guests: the bathroom at The Butlers has an elegant bath and no shower. What it does have is limitless hot water, from the farm’s own wood-fired boiler, so a long soak at the end of a farm day is what this bathroom is made for. If a shower is important to you, The Tower or The Old Mill will suit you better.
Warmth from our own woodland
Organic farming is a circle, and so is this: The Butlers is heated by the farm’s wood boiler, fuelled entirely with timber from our own sustainable woodland – much of it ash lost to ash dieback, felled, seasoned and given a second working life warming the farmhouse and cottages. The estate keeps the cottage warm, and there is plenty of hot water for your bath.
THE FARM – INCLUDED WITH EVERY STAY
Your booking is not just a cottage – it is the run of a working organic farm of over 450 acres in the vale of the River Taf.
Join the morning animal feeding rounds – collect the eggs, and bottle-feed the pet calves and lambs in spring. Wander where you wish: 2.5 miles of private riverbank, 50 acres of ancient woodland, and miles of paths – along the river, along the old railway line, carpeted with bluebells and wild flowers in season. Fishing on our own stretch of the river is free with your stay – sewin, brown trout and salmon – you simply need your own rod licence. The children’s play area is a straight run from The Butlers’ back door.
For something more, learn to drive a real John Deere with a working farmer, or ride along in the cab as the farm’s working day unfolds – each bookable as an optional extra.
WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO LEAVE
Many families find they never need to venture far at all. The estate itself – the riverbanks, the woodland, the farm animals, the open fields – keeps children happily occupied for days. The space and freedom of Gwarmacwydd is often what guests remember most. As one guest put it: From the moment we woke up the fun began.
EXPLORING THE LOCAL AREA
Narberth – one of the most celebrated small towns in West Wales – is just a short drive away. The Pembrokeshire coast is within easy reach, with Wiseman’s Bridge and Saundersfoot among the closest beaches, and the full sweep of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park beyond.
